Google Earth Import Taking Too Long

Trouble Importing Google Earth Surfaces

You have a version of Google Earth installed after version 4, and the Google Earth Surface import is taking a very long time to import.

Since Google Earth V4, Google Earth now limits downloading of surface data to 5,000 points for the free version.

If the download is not progressing, you need to review your Google Earth import settings.  The process for this is as follows:

  • Click on the Settings tab of the Civil 3D Toolspace

Limiting the point import to a 70x70 grid (4,900 points) will improve the download time from Google Earth

    AutoCAD Civil 3D Version: 2010

  • Expand out Surfaces, then Commands. This lists all of the default settings for commands you execute in Civil 3D for surfaces
  • Double click on ImportGEData to edit this command setting
  • Expand out Google Earth Options and change both the rows and columns to 70. This will limit the number of points imported from Google Earth to 4,900
  • Repead the above steps for the ImportGESurface command setting
