Importing Points with Trimble Link

If you have GPS data from a Trimble Controller, the best way to bring this data into Civil3D is to export out CSV PENZD (Comma Delimited) file from the hand held and either Import the points through Civil3D's Import Points or through Stringer Connect.

If you use the Trimblelink option in Civil3D it may do things that you dont know about (like i just had a client who tried to renumber his points and the co-ords & Heights changed on his points upon import) like bring the data in through the survey database and if you dont know anything about the Survey Database it will be harder to make any changes to the data you have brought in.

Once you bring the data in through the Civil3D import Points you can then just use those points as normal in civil3D to move and rotate and they wont be locked into the survey database.

The only thing i use Trimblelink for is to export a road alignment for setout from any distance or offset along that alignment. The only thing with doing this is that if you have alot of alignments you have to do them one at a time and you also have to have created a corridor in your job for it to work.

Please speak to one of the engineers for them to explain how to create corridors in Civil3D.
