4K monitors

We have done extensive research on the issues surrounding a move to 4k monitor support. Unfortunately Windows forms, as used throughout Visual Studio (from which we build Civil Site Design) are not built for a dual environment (4k and not 4k). Our attempts so far result in improvements in high dpi monitors (4k) and negative impacts to standard dpi monitors. We are still investigating, but most of the information out there suggests a complete rewrite of the form in another language/extension. It looks like it will be a long process for the development team. We are committed to working toward 4k monitors, but so far the impact on form display for standard monitors (which are still the most used in our user base) has prevented implementation. We currently code in the .NET Framework which is fully supported by BricsCAD and Autodesk. The evolution of the .NET Framework is .NET Core, which includes cross platform support and support for 4k monitors. Once .NET Core becomes mainstream and is supported by BricsCAD and Autodesk, we will have an immediate development path for Civil Site Design fully supporting 4k monitors. Some customers are adjusting their 4k monitor resolution to match standard HD (or slightly higher). To do this: - Set the resolution to 1920x1080 (full HD) or higher (staying clear of full 4k resolution, which makes the text too small) - Set the Text Scaling to 100% Civil Site Design forms behave fine with any screen resolution so long as the Text Scaling is set to 100%. | |
