Exporting and Importing Vertical Grading Designs

Saving and Re-Using Vertical Grading Designs

There is a quick way to reinstate a previous vertical design (since ARD 2010) - this can be very useful if you are fudging up the vertical grading for plotting purposes (but you don't want to muck up anything that is associated to this element, like side roads or kerb returns or cul-de-sacs).

ARD now allows you to export out any vertical design to file - this vertical design can then be pushed (imported) onto any Road/String in any project.

You can use this to export out 'correct' vertical geometry, edit the vertical geometry, then import it back in once you have plotted long sections. You can also use the Export process as a form of checking multiple design scenarios.

The process for exporting/importing vertical grading designs is as follows:

  • Open the Vertical Grading Editor for the Road
  • Click on the button at the top (second from the right) of the Vertical Grading Editor Window (it has a tooltip of 'Compute VC from Existing Data'). This form allows you to set up vertical gradings using other strings and/or other design/existing surface/profile data.
  • At the bottom of the form is the button Export VC. Click on this and pick a location for the VC data.
  • You can then recall this data and apply it to your Road/String by clicking on the Import VC button
